Writing About Poetry

Let's talk about poetry. Some people love it. Some hate it. Some like to read it. Some like to write it. Some even fear it. But almost everyone has an opinion. In a well developed paragraph of at least 100 words, tell me your feelings about poetry. Then check out the comments that some of your classmates made. You may find that someone else feels the same as you.

I enjoy reading poetry but I don’t like writing it. I enjoy reading poetry because I feel poetry is very beautiful. Poetry is also very easy to read because of the rhyming. Another thing I like about poetry is some poems can be interrupted in different ways. So I can think a poem means something completely different than what another person feels it means. I don’t like writing poetry because to me it’s very difficult. I’m not good at rhyming and when I have attempted to write a poem it didn’t sound right when I read it. To me its just to hard to get it in the proper format and have it make sense all at once.

As bad as it sounds, I absolutely hate poetry and every aspect of poetry. I hate reading it because, I never understand what the author means. If the author is trying to tell the world something, he or she should just say it or write it in a way that people actualy understand. I don't want to sit there trying to analyze something that i most likely don't even care about. I don't like writing poetry either. If I have something to say I'll just say it. I'm not going to waste my time being indirect when nobody is going to understand me anyways.

When I read poetry, I like to read something that relates to my life or people in my life. Poetry is so closely related to music and I love music! I feel really close to poetry and I enjoy writing it. It may take me a while but I can write a decent poem. I just like putting my heart into it. Taking my time to do it is really important to me! I have written songs and poems before. I haven’t done it in a while but I would like to start doing it again.

.. Poetry ... What can i say i love writing it. I am not a big fan of reading it but for some reason i love to write it. I actually wrote a small poem yesterday during history to my boyfriend. Poetry i feel is a great way to express your feelings A lot of epople think to hard when they are writing it. You have to let the words just come to you. That's what i do. I can sit in front of a piece of paper for about ten minutes and do nothing. I just wait for the words to flow. I have been a person who happens to not have trouble coming up with a poem that flows. I hope maybe someday i can publish something with my poems.

Personally, I absolutely hate poetry. I remember when I was in elementary school we had a poetry section we had to do in reading and we had to create poems and everyone would sit there with a dumbfounded look on there face trying to rhyme the words. Yes, that isnt what all poetry is about trying to rhyme things but alot of that has to deal with it. I dont understand why you cant just say what you need to say as John Mayer says. I personally dread it, I guess its ok to read but not really in the same way. In an all around statement to sum it up I dont like poetry at all.

My feelings on Poetry are mixed. As a musician I love song lyrics which are themselves poetry if written eloquently, but I find normal poetry not accompanied by music to be bland. I do enjoy the work of some poets, but flowery words with no rhythm or music is completely lost on me. Though I have a book called The Gypsy Mile, written by one of my favorite musicians, Dave McWane, lead singer and lyricist of one of my favorite bands, Big D & the Kids Table. His poems are about his life on the road and all the things he sees, it’s interesting to see the world through the eyes of a man whose work I love and respect, and as a musician his poems have a beautiful sense of rhythm. So I would consider myself a casual poetry fan, and novice of a poet. I write mostly lyrics, few of which I am very proud of, but every now and then I have a lovely breakthrough. I find short poems much easier to write, but it’s hard for me to express how I feel with words, and have a much easier time feeling it out through music.

I like certain forms of poetry. Free form poetry annoys me. I love music, but I'm not good at writing it. I like to write poetry. But ones that go along to a certain rhyme scheme. I hate that "lovey dovey" poetry too. I like poetry that explains one thing about someone's life. Like alot of my poetry has to do with a way I feel about certain things. I use it as a way to voice myself, to myself. I don't let anyone else read it. Except my uncle, he's an author, so I have him read it to tell me what I need to work on. He tells me my stuff is good, but I need to write more. I don't think anyone can hate poetry, because there is a certain type of poetry that people do like. I think there is a type of poetry for everyone. Like music. Who hates music? I'm no proffesional, but I'm almost positive that the majority of the human population likes music. Some love it, some don't mind it, but it's real hard to hate it.

Poetry is somthing all people should enjoy, i like to read poety on my free time.
to a poet poetry is a way to realease what they feel and to share it with the world.
in my case poetry is somthing that calms me down, it relaxes me before a show. it lets me now that there are other people who feel the same thing i feel, and when i read thier words it makes me feel like i have known them for ever, they relaese their feeling to you hoping that you would understand, hoping that you will enjoy what they have to say.
people think that all poetry is the same, butit is not, some poetry rhymes, some dont, some have other meaning tthen others some have th same. not all poetry is the same and thats the beuty it is in art.

I enjoy poetry because of the different meanings people get from one poem. The author may have a certain meaning or symbolism behind a poem, but the reader almost makes it their own by connecting with it. I enjoy writing poetry; I’m not so good at writing songs, but poetry I can write comfortably. I personally like short poetry over long poetry because short poems are usually, to me, better. To me, short poetry means not an epic poem, or Dante’s Inferno. I like Robert Frost’s work as well as Edgar Allan Poe. They are different but very cleverly written.

Personally, I loathe poetry. Completely hate it. I hate writing it, I hate reading it, and I hate trying to figure out what it means. Some people say the whole “Well if you listen to Music” blah, blah, blah. No, it’s not the same. Poetry lacks any kind of substance for me; I can’t read poetry and be able to find a deeper meaning from it. I could read books upon books and find the hidden meanings and what not. It has so many rules too, you need this many syllables in this sentence or rhymes in that one. Oh and Shakespeare needs to calm down with that Iambic Pentameter.

I strongly dislike poetry. I don’t really hate it because I wish I liked it. Don’t get me wrong, music is awesome, but I don’t get most poetry. I like Shel Silverstein. That’s about it. Those poems are funny. I do not understand serious poetry. It’s just beyond me. I wish I did so I could be the artsy type, but it is not my cup of tea. Stuff like Emily Dickinson and Shakespeare flies right over my head (which is weird because Emily Dickinson and I have the same birthday, so we should mesh). Still, I wish I liked poetry more, but I don’t.

I really like writing poetry. My poems are usually dark but some are happy. I feel that the darker poems are the ones that provide the most insight in to the author. The schools poetry coriculum is usually light and happy poems and i would rather it be somthing with a little more substance and depth. I love poetry, I'd rather not read it but i enjoy it just the same. There is a poem out there for every type of situation. From love to hate and birth to death all you have to do is find the poem that speaks to you.

Poetry is great to read but absolutely terrible to write. I think poetry has to be one of the worst things to write. It's just so difficult to write.I basically hate writing poetry. But I love reading the sweey poetry. The more techincal ones on the other hand are unnecessary. I dislike reading those to. I specifically like reading a certain type and thats the cute ones.

I honestly don't like poetry at all. First of all, when I write ANYTHING, it's usually based on some kind of emotion. I always put a lot of emotion in to whatever I write. And when I do, it tends to flow nicely on to the page. But when I write poetry, it has to be structured and organized and rhyme. It doesn't flow for me. I have to think about it for a long time. So it's impossible for me to put emotion into it. That's why most of my poems turn out to be about a chair or a piece of chalk. Stupid things like that. I also don't really like reading poetry cause it seems unnecessary to me. If you want to say something, just say it. Don't put a bunch of pretty words together and dance around what you're really trying to say. I'm going to try to get through this unit as smoothly as possible.
